At the annual dinner of the Wynnum Manly Rugby League District Football Club, life membership was conferred upon Mrs, J. J. Cloherty, for service rendered over the years.
Mrs. Cloherty would be the first lady associated with any professional Rugby League organisation in Australia to have life membership honours bestowed upon her.
Mrs. Cloherty “Dorrie” to her legion of friends during the last 16 years, opened her home for the purpose of fundraising and social activities for the local club.
Mr Russell Roff, himself a life member, said on the occasion of the presentation to Mrs. Cloherty that thanks went out to her wonderful work done over the years and it was hoped that she would be spared to enjoy a long life and enjoy the privileges which would be forthcoming, when the new grounds a Wondall Road are completed.
Mr. Roff said the Wynnum Manly Rugby League Club challenged any other League organisation to lay claim to having a lady life member.
Officials, members and players all heartily congratulated Mrs. Cloherty on the occasion of her becoming this League’s First Lady life member.
