1971 Mobil Card No.8 Peter Theophanes
In 1971 Mobil Australia launched a series of Photo Cards in the BRL, NSWRL, VFL and SANFL markets. The BRL set was 40 cards in total and five players from each club were represented. You were able to redeem a card each time you purchased fuel at any Mobil Service Station and an album was at the extra cost of 40 cents.
The album itself featured a picture of the 1970 World Cup team on the first page of the album, followed by individual areas for your cards to be placed over several pages. Under each player card was the number of the card, along with players details and their achievements. The inside back cover was used as an area for players signatures.
The Wynnum Manly players represented in this set are Peter Theophanes (8), Trevor Neibling (16), Wayne James (24), Len Brunner (32) and Gary Dobrich (40).
The Len Brunner card proved a popular piece by seasons end, due to Len Brunner being named as the Rothmans Medal winner in August of that year.
