Fashion was the order of the day as Roy Costello and Bob Patterson display their team attire before leaving for New Zealand.

In September 1974 the Wynnum Manly Rugby League team was invited to play Auckland club Ellerslie in an invitational game in Auckland, New Zealand.

Wynnum Manly were defeated by Ellislie 18 points to 10.  The Seagulls trailed 5-2 at halftime and tired in the third quarter when Ellislie slapped on three quick tries.  The four tackle rule applied and the Seagulls had trouble gaining possesion.  They lost the scrums 11-16 and conceded penalties at the rate of two to one, many for scrum infringements.  Ellislie scored four tries to two.  Neil Kingston and Doug Kelly scored the tries for Wynnum and Patterson converted one and kicked a penalty goal.
