Four trading cards from the Stars of Wynnum Manly set
The Wynnum Manly Seagulls continued to develop ways to increase the profile of the club and its players in 2008/09. The Seagulls launched a collector series of Player Trading Cards, a first for this level of competition since the glory days of the 80’s.
The aim was to bring the focus of junior players in our region back to the Qld Cup and the Collector Cards helped did that as well as lifting the profile of our current playing roster.
As a follow on from 2008 Centenary celebrations also available was a limited edition Legends range depicting the players selected in the Wynnum Manly Legends Team.
There are some famous names amongst this collection including formers greats such as Lionel Morgan, Greg Dowling, Bobby Cook, David Green, Brian Walsh and Des Morris. Each time a junior supporter attended a Seagulls home game they received a set of 6 cards containing 3 x “Stars of Wynnum Manly” collector cards and 3 x “Legends of Wynnum Manly” collector cards. There is 42 cards to collect in the set.
The Stars of Wynnum Manly collector cards provided great value with two for the price of one. They display a former Seagulls player on the flip side of one or our current players. The players featured include some of the real characters that have played for Wynnum Manly including Grant “Squasher” Wooden, Ricky Taylor, Clayton “Monkey” Maher, Ron Troutman just to name a few. Most players featured have reached a milestone with the Seagulls including former Captains, 100 game players, Player of the Year award winners and this is a great way to recognise their achievements.

In total the set launched included 42 cards in all, with 20 Legend Cards and 22 Stars of Wynnum Manly. The Stars of Wynnum Manly set is a reverse side series featuring a player on each side of the card. They are sold on Trading Card sites throughout Queensland and New South Wales and due to the limited amount printed, it is difficult to obtain a full set.
