1982 Wynnum Manly Checklist

Scanlens were known for producing trading cards for various football codes throughout Australia, for over 30 years.  In 1982 Scanlens decided to have a set produced for the Brisbane Rugby League market for the very first time, this set included 76 cards plus a checklist for each of the eight clubs.  A poster was also available for this unique set, featuring each of the cards on this poster.

Up to ten players were represented from each club, a photo of each player was taken and  placed on each of cards.  It was reported that players received the sum of $50 and a free poster for the photo session.

This set also became a jigsaw on the reverse side of each card.  It featured a rampaging Mal Meninga taking up the ball in the 1981 Grand Final between Redcliffe and Souths.

Scanlens trading cards were available at your local corner store or news agency at a cost of 20 cents per pack, with each pack containing a total of seven cards.  Many children spent their hard earned pocket money on completing the entire set.

The ten Wynnum Manly players represented in this set are: Colin Scott (38), Mark Zillman (39), Greg Dowling (40), Terry Saunders (41), Brett French (42), Gene Miles (43), Tony Kambouris (44), Peter Sibley (45), Gary Seaton (46), David Green (47) and the Wynnum Manly Checklist.

The set is valued well over $1000 in today’s marketplace.
